Regional project “Labour Migration Programme in Central Asia” Country Coordination Mechanism convenes its 1st meeting.
November 29, 2022, Dushanbe, Tajikistan - On November 29, IOM Tajikistan hosted in Dushanbe the 1st meeting of the Country Coordination Mechanism (CCM) within the framework of its regional project "Labour Migration Programme in Central Asia"
The meeting discussed the issues of exchange in experiences and information on migration developments and trends, establishment of strategic partnerships and interactions with other programs and stakeholders at the country level, preparation for the 1st Regional Coordination Mechanism, which will be conducted on December 14, in Amaty, Kazakhstan.
Since June 2022, The International Organization for Migration (IOM)/ UN Migration has been implementing regional project "Labour Migration Programme in Central Asia", funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), which promotes the labor migration governance to maximize the impact of human mobility on development in both countries of origin and destination.
The country coordination mechanism meeting brought together representatives from the Ministry of Labour, Migration and Employment, Migration Services, Research Institute of Labour, Migration and Employment, Adult Education Center, Overseas Employment Agency, National Bank of Tajikistan, Statistics Agency of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Ministry of Education and Science, private employment agencies and the civil society organizations.
Ms Shakhnoza Nodiri, Deputy Minister of Labor, Migration and Employment of the Republic of Tajikistan as the chairmen stressed out that regular communication and effective coordination of key stakeholders at national and regional levels support to identify and respond to challenges of migration.
The project aims to support the efforts of Governments and other stakeholders in the target countries (Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan) to identify issues and regularly adapt and improve labor migration policies and processes at the national and regional levels.
The CCM was created as a platform to discuss current migration issues, which in turn serves as a guide for the implementation of Project activities.
At the conclusion, the meeting participants from the above-mentioned agencies expressed their commitment for collective action and the development of an effective mechanism for labor migration governance, and readiness to adapt to the changing dynamics of the labor market and steadily improve the protection of workers in recruitment and employment.
