Stylish youth with modern haircuts from a remote village thank their only barber, former migrant

Subhiddin Vohidov had a tough period, when was banned to re-enter Russia, lost father, and got bad news from doctors – he should not accept heavy jobs anymore!

The International Organization for Migration - UN Agency for Migration (IOM) under a project funded by the USAID Dignity and Rights gave Subhiddin set of razors, clippers, trimmers and other hair cutting equipment, a table and chairs, mirror and whatever else one need to open a modern barbershop. Now, Subhiddin’s barbershop is the first full-and-well-equipped barbershop in his village and surrounded ones providing the full set of haircut services to local youth.

He says: “A lot of people come here. When I come to the work in the morning, there are already several guys staying in line. Youth from other villages call and book time to ensure that I’ll be here”.

And he is there. Always! Subhiddin works hard and long hours to satisfy every single client he has. Village guys now can brag with their modern and cute haircut styles. They don’t have to go long way to the city to get a stylish haircut. The service is available at home, in walking distance now.

Subhiddin says: “Clients are satisfied, I am happy. I can make money, my family is happy. I have four children and used first to get sad a lot thinking what I will do for earning. Now I plan to teach hairdressing to my younger brothers too and expand the barbershop”.

The IOM also gave Subhiddin construction materials, so he can build his own barbershop closer to his home rather than renting a space. Check this video out to watch this inspiring story.
