Representatives of state agencies and civil society organizations in four different regions of Tajikistan learned safe migration rules and migrants’ rights protection ways at trainings organized by the International Organization for Migration - UN Migration Agency. The series of trainings concluded on 12 March in Rasht valley. Earlier this year, Bokhtar in Khatlon, Khujand in Sughd, and Khorugh in Badakhshon provinces hosted the similar trainings.

The trainings equipped the local experts and specialists with latest knowledge to help and provide assistance to Tajik migrants abroad, potential migrants, returnees and other vulnerable people related to migration.

“We introduced the participants with the situation with labour migration and human trafficking in the world and Tajikistan, latest amendments in the Russian Federation’s legislation and international conventions on migrants’ right and rights of victims of trafficking in persons” says Saidmuhammad Davlatov, IOM Tajikistan.

The training course covered both theory and practical knowledge in migration legislation of countries hosting significant number of Tajik migrant workers. The program was interactive and diversified and included presentations, lectures, videos, group and individual works, as well as discussions.

“I’d like to mention that use of new technologies, visuals and interactive teaching methods was especially effective and useful during the training”, shares his impressions Rustam Jamolov from Sughd migration authority.

Through hands-on experiences, the participants furthered their knowledge also in role of media and social media in covering migration and were guided through some basic steps of media literacy. How to work with media and in social media as representatives of the government agencies and NGOs was also part of the agenda.

The trainings were conducted under USAID’s Dignity and Rights five-year regional project. The project aims to advance human rights and dignity in Central Asia, both as an issue of public policy, as well as civic culture. IOM also expresses gratitude to the local authorities for making this opportunity of spreading the knowledge possible.
